Music Therapy

Chris has spent the majority of his working life in care settings supporting disadvantaged members of society. This has included youth clubs, day centres, womens aid, summer camps in the USA, and childrens homes in the UK and USA.
Since completing his Creative Therapies degree in his mid thirties Chris has been fortunate enough to be able to share his love for music in his daytime work. This involves running therapeutic music sessions for the mental health charity Mind at their Harrogate and Ripon centres, as well as teaching music skills on a weekend to kids in care for Bradford councils Fostering and Adoption Unit.

In 2011 BBC Alba filmed Chris at work as part of their 'Ceol Country' series.

As a result of this a number of fundraising concerts raising money for Mind and other charities were held. Several other fundraisers are planned for this year. Some country fans have even donated instruments at Chris's gigs for use in the group.
'The kindness and generosity of so many people on the British Country music circuit is overwhelming. Many clubs and their members commit their time, effort, and money on a regular basis. Thanks again to everyone who has supported my efforts on this front'.

Chris is supported in his music sessions by talented local (Harrogate) musician Nige Harrison. Aside from his considerable vocal/songwriting talents Nige is a professional drum tutor, and shares these skills with music group members. 'In this difficult financial climate Mind has been unable to secure funding for Nige's expenses, and currently funds these from it's own limited resources. With the permission of club organisers I would love to able to fund Nige on an ongoing 'gig to gig' basis,(Using an official Mind tin of course!) as any amounts no matter how small would go a long way to securing his valuable involvement'
